ArtScéal is an artist collective interested in creating new ways for audiences to engage with visual art — experiences that move beyond the traditional gallery format.

At the heart of our work is story. This might be the story of an artist’s life, the ideas and influences behind their work, or the worlds that surround and inform it. We are drawn to the space between visual art and theatre-making, where images, sound, movement and live encounter can come together to deepen how people experience art.

Our projects are often site-specific and take place in non-gallery spaces. We regularly incorporate film, live music, performance and spoken word, and we think of our work as both an exhibition and a gathering — a place where people can meet, talk, listen, celebrate, and spend time with the work and with each other.

We are interested in creating moments of immersion: experiences that invite audiences into a shared, three-dimensional space where art can be felt as well as seen. A party, a conversation, a moment of reflection — these are all part of how we think about engagement.

We don’t begin our projects with fixed outcomes. Each work is shaped through a process of research, listening and devising. We follow curiosity, respond to place, and allow ideas to emerge over time. Often, we don’t know exactly what the work will become until we are deep into the process.

In many ways, we believe the story finds us.
